I spy with my little eye... Summer Squash!

And boy do I love Steamed Zucchini smothered in lots of butter!

Zucchini Blossoms are so pretty! Interesting Fact: The male blossoms are narrow-stemmed, while the female blossoms attach to the stem with a large bulge that is, in fact, the nascent squash!

Zucchini Blossoms are also edible!

Ingredients:
1 medium sized Zucchini or Yellow Squash (Summer Squash)
Butter
Salt & Pepper to taste

Did you know that Summer Squash is merely a young Zucchini or Yellow Crookneck Squash that is harvested immaturely when its rind is still tender and edible?

Directions:
Wash your zucchini.
Slice your zucchini into 1/2 inch thick rounds,
and cut each round in half (quarter up if rounds are too large).

Fill a pot with enough water where it just barely reaches the bottom of a steamer basket.
Once the water comes to a boil, add vegetables and place a loose fitting lid on top to cover.

On the stovetop, steam zucchini for six to seven minutes.
In the microwave, steam for six to eight minutes.

When done, transfer zucchini to a bowl and smother in butter
and add a little salt and pepper for flavor!

Fourth time’s a charm!!

I don’t admit a whole lot of things because I’m a firm believer in the saying,
“I’m right, you’re wrong, And there’s nothing You can DO about IT!”,
But I really have to confess one thing, and that is I am a very BAA-A-AD Gardener.
I’ve attempted to plant a garden on this dry red earth four stinkin’ times now.

Between the droughts, locust, grubs, moles, reckless neighbors on ATVs, and sheer lack of Green Thumb, I have never succeeded at growing much more than a few onions.
WOE IS ME!!!

The one thing I am good at is NOT GIVING UP!  So once again I have run to the local Garden Center picked out a medley of seeds and planted them in a big tray of soil pods.
BbGirl believes in me! She helped me sow the seeds. I am hoping to put together a raised garden this year. I guess we’ll see if it works.

..And LOOKIE!! Our seedlings have sprouted this week!! Time to cross my fingers and hope for the best!!

I was at the Tractor Supply the other day and noticed the sales associates pulling out all the gardening supply. *Oh Geez* is it that time of year again? I do not have a Green Thumb when it comes to gardening! The last garden I attempted (Spring/Summer 2008) started off growing beautifully and then withered away in the Oklahoma heat. I tried so hard to keep the plants well hydrated. I weeded every day, fertilized, I even tilled the earth every day!

The grubs and aphids were just awful that year! I tried every pesticide imaginable but it was no use, my garden went down by vermin, plague and drought.

I saw those lovely packets of seeds dangling from the displays calling out to me and I so badly want to try my hand at gardening again.  Am I crazy?  I must be crazy because I am going to make another attempt at growing a garden this year. This time I will seek out a good plot of earth that offers an equal amount of sun and shade. I need to find an area close enough to both the house and our wellhouse.  I think I will plant our garden either in our front yard or on the east side of the house directly south of the wellhouse.

Now, I must decide, should I plant directly into the earth or build planter boxes? Hmmm. . . . .  I may need to build planter boxes because the gophers are a menace out here on the south shore.

Well here I go again!!! Maybe this year's vegetable garden will prove lasting results!  I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!

Now to find free scrap wood to build my planter boxes out of . . . . Ooh! I'll post an ad on the Freecycle forums!
